Tencent extends lead in China's $1.78 billion online gaming market

ISP now commands 33.7% share

Internet service provider Tencent remains the dominant force in the Chinese online gaming market, extending its lead in Q1 2012 according to a report by Analysys International.

Tencent now holds a 33.7 percent share of what Analysys claims is a 11.26 billion yuan ($1.78 billion) market ? itself up 9.5 percent from Q4 2011 figures.

Tencent on top

"Manufacturers adopted various tactics in their promotions to increase their revenue in the beginning of 2012," detailed Analysys in its report.

"Analysys International finds that there was no change in the ranking and Tencent continued to lead the market with absolute strength."

Though on top in the online gaming market, Tencent has spent the last year investing heavily in its operations on mobile, launching its own app store on Android in September.

The platform, which is now also compatible with iOS, Windows Phone, Symbian and HTML5, boasted 13 million daily active users as of February 2012.
