MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - In Miami at the church of Trayvon Martin and Sybrina Fulton parishioners who had been supporting Fulton gathered to get guidance on how to continue with what they thought was a disappointing verdict.
Pastor Arthur Jackson III at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Miami Gardens where Martin?s funeral was held says ?Our church our community is extremely disappointed. We're heartbroken over the verdict, of course we respect it but we don't understand it.?
CBS 12 was the only local news crew at the church Sunday morning.
While Fulton was a no show she did send a message through her pastor saying she will rely on God for strength and continue to pray to get through the devastating verdict. "She wanted me to let the church and all the media outlets know that she's still trusting in God. Even though she couldn't trust in the legal system she's trusting in the Lord not being able to trust the courts she's trusting Christ."
He went on to quote her favorite scripture. Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 which speaks of trusting the Lord and she wanted the community and the church to know that?s what she was absolutely doing.
Moving forward he says they are going to take their disappointment and turn it into mobilization to try and get the stand your ground law turned overturned.
As for turning to violence from the verdict, the pastor says he?s encouraging his parishioner to arm themselves but with a different type of weapon. ?We are arming ourselves but our weapons are not carnal. We are arming ourselves with prayer. We are putting on the whole armor of God. We are putting on the helmet of Salvation, we are making sure that we are turning it over to God.?Sybrina Fulton's Miami Gardens church prays for healing following Zimmerman verdict
