Are You Behind On Your Affiliate Marketing? Catch Up With These Great Pointers

Are you seeking increased sales and a larger audience for your product? Then web marketing might be the right industry for you. By using Internet marketing, you can attract customers and increase sales through the effective use of online advertisements. Keep reading to see how affiliate marketing can revolutionize your business revenue.

To promote your product to the audience before the sale, introduce them to a page that is specifically about the merchandise, like a video. Doing this will make them feel like they have a better understanding of the product they are considering purchasing. Media is far more engaging and far less pushy than a glut of sales text.

Each shipment that you send out should include relevant, valuable coupons or samples. Clients really appreciate these types of coupons and often become repeat customers.

One of the most effective online marketing strategies is to reward frequent customers and visitors accordingly. Make sure that you keep your current customers, as they will provide a lot of value over time. People are generally more than happy to share their great experiences with others, and this can really pay off for you.

Create an easily accessible email list of your potential and current clients. You could require an email address when purchases are made, or place an enlistment form right on your website. Later, you can incorporate this information to market to your customers, as well as send them promotional materials or inquire about customer feedback.

When you do not regularly update or revamp your website, consider keeping things fresh with a company blog. Your site will rank higher in search results if you keep updating it every week with fresh content. A blog allows you to create fresh content consistently.

If you are a good writer, try writing articles with your business information and submit them to magazines and websites that accept article submissions. Be certain to add your company information and site information. Take the time to work with editors in order to increase your chances for publication.

Find websites that will list your branded item for free; this item can be an electronic book for example. If you plan to offer a free e-book, you can submit it to sites that provide e-books at no charge. There are many sites that offer free items that you can submit.

Adding a glossary of specific terms is useful in helping to show your site to be a respected source of information in your chosen niche. Not only is a glossary useful to readers, but it is also rich in keywords, helping your site show up more often on search engines. If people are searching for these words, they will land at your site.

If you want to get a higher page ranking create a sale! You can purchase page rank and other consumer sites will use you as an affiliate. The concept is similar to businesses selling an item at a loss, expecting to profit from the move in the future.

You can read studies that been done on the psychological impact of web design and it?s effects on Internet marketing. Many psychological factors can determine how people perceive your product, including the color and design of your site. This information is useful when you are trying to get the most money.

Design your emails so that they create a sense of urgency to act in your customers. Some actions you may try are buying a product or service, visiting a website, or subscribing to a particular magazine. Once your customers do something you suggest, you can cross-reference the marketing results by checking how many customers visited your website or purchased your product.

Enjoy an increase in sales, higher profits and more effective productivity when you use this solid advice. Internet marketing is a very powerful tool to promote a business. Apply these tips to your online marketing strategy and watch the customers fly in.

How a 390-year-old family business avoids layoffs

TODAY's Bob Dotson explores the history of Zildjian, a company that began in Turkey in the 17th century and hasn't seen a layoff in recent memory.

By Bob Dotson, TODAY

When was the last time you heard this in an American factory?
?
?I?ve been here 26 years in June,? Mark Lovell says, leaning toward me as telling a secret, ?and I?ve never seen a layoff, ever.?

Lovell is confident that the 70 workers on his production line will always have good-paying jobs, because no one competes with a machine. Whenever a task is automated, the employee who performed it is trained for another one worth equivalent pay.?

?Taking a break while the machine?s taking a break, huh?? The boss, Debbie Zildjian, laughs as she holds a door open for George Plaskas. The Greek immigrant has been retrained seven times in 40 years. Plaskas raised two kids in a solidly middle-class neighborhood.

American industry was built by such immigrants, who looked beyond quarterly profits. And today, the Zildjian cymbal factory in Norwell, Mass., still does.?

American Story: Pioneer spirit keeps town from giving up the ghost

For 15 years, Debbie Zildjian, has offered incentive pay, not just for working faster or producing more, but for jobs that are done right the first time. ?There were only two months out of those 15 years where we haven?t had a payout,? she points out.

Every person on the line must approve the work they do. That?s a big reason why Debbie?s sister, Craigie, the CEO, has never outsourced a job overseas.

Take a look inside the production facility of Zildjian, America's oldest family business, and see how its renowned musical instruments are made.

?The notion of sending your quality, outsourcing your quality halfway around the world,? Craigie says, ?is unthinkable.?

The Zildjian Company makes cymbals. Leon Chiappini has been testing them for more than half a century. ?You?re not going to find two of them that are the same,? Chiappini says. ?They?re like snowflakes. Each sound is unique.?

Cymbals were hardly heard at all in popular music before Craigie's and Debbie?s grandfather made some of them thinner and found a rainbow of sound. He did this during hard times, the start of the Great Depression. Avedis Zildjian III began hiring as businesses all around him were firing.? He lured good workers with a simple promise.?

American Story: 'Payback painter' thanks town for kindness with mural

?It comes down to trust doesn?t it?? Craigie says. ?You take care of us, and we?ll take care of you.? That pledge has remained unbroken since the beginning.

The Zildjian Company has outlasted empires. It began in Turkey back in 1623, survived the move to Massachusetts, and thrives even during economic turmoil.

Producer's notebook: Taking a crash course in cymbals

Matt Flynn, drummer for the band Maroon 5, sits down with TODAY's Bob Dotson to talk about Zildjian cymbals and the differences between individual cymbals.

Quality became more than a slogan. The 125 Americans in this little factory cornered more than half the cymbal market in the world. Who better to tell us how to create and keep good jobs than a company in business for 390 years?

?Our dad always said, ?follow the music,?" Debbie says. And they did, from big bands to the Beatles, classical to jazz. Debbie pointed to pictures of the legendary drummers who have used their product:? Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Ringo Starr. They were invited to help the company innovate.

American Story: Tiny town chips in to save its historic newspaper

And musicians still do today. They can test their cymbals in a pressurized room that re-creates the acoustics of concert venues across the country, giving them a chance to hear how cymbals will sound before they perform.

Zildjian?s success attracts people with deep pockets. ?Have you ever been tempted to sell the company?? I asked Craigie.

?Oh, almost weekly. We could be quite wealthy. But we?re not tempted.? Because Debbie?s 4-year-old granddaughter is in line to take over one day.

The CEO pushes back from her desk and asks the little girl: ?Do you want to work at the company, Emilia??

The job won?t be handed to her when she gets bigger. Every Zildjian in the family business must first prove their worth working outside the firm. But Emilia doesn?t hesitate. She answers emphatically: ?Yes.?

New electronic cymbals have already been named after her generation of Zildjians ? the 16th.

How that smartphone makes you less manly

By Rob Walker

In an oversharing moment at the TED conference last week, Google co-founder Sergey Brin confessed to finding his smartphone ?emasculating.? You know about this, because the remark had the whole Internet aflutter, possibly because Brin himself looks so macho these days: fit, tousle-haired and evidently in possession of Ben Affleck?s recently abandoned beard. Throw in the Terminator-esque Google Glass that Brin says will remasculate the masses, and he seemed poised to annihilate us all. (By comparison, here?s what Brin looked like pre-Glass.)

Lulz ensued, of course. But if you set aside Brin?s surprising word choice and dubious eyewear, he?s getting at something that?s worth taking seriously. More and more of us are drifting away from PCs and laptops, and toward mobile, touch-screen devices. The benefits for consumers are clear enough, but what about the downsides?

One answer turns very specifically on that word choice: ?consumers.? Sue Gardner, executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation, observed in a recent interview on the Australian radio show "Future Tense" that Wikipedia participants who transition to tablet devices seem to contribute less as a result, because those devices ?are better for watching videos and surfing the internet than for typing text.?

Her real point was that this is not just a problem for Wikipedia, it?s also a potentially profound shift in how to think about what the Internet is for. Instead of being a place where all sorts of people create all sorts of things for all sorts of audiences, Gardner continued, ?I think increasingly what's happening is, partly as a result of the kinds of devices that are being manufactured and that people are buying, people are moving toward a more consumption-based Internet experience from a production-based experience.?

Setting aside the cheap jokes about Brin and the art of manliness?mostly because I can?t think of any more?maybe these consumption-friendlier objects do emasculate, or ?make (a person) weaker or less effective? (to quote the top definition of the word that, um, Google kicked in my face). I now travel with an iPad instead of a laptop, and even when I bring a keyboard attachment, I definitely produce less. Beyond answering vital email and poking out a few ?likes? on one or another social network, it?s just much easier to watch something on Netflix, or catch up with whatever I?ve stashed in Instapaper.

Now, to offer an important but unfashionable caveat, I don?t think there?s anything wrong with consuming the Internet, as it were. There?s lots of great stuff out there. If it weren?t for the Internet, it?s unlikely I?d be able to enjoy Australian radio shows, for instance. And you wouldn?t be reading this column right now.

But Gardner?s point is a useful one for me to cite in my first column for Yahoo News. It?s a daunting thing to show up in 2013 and announce: ?I am writing about technology.? I mean, who isn?t? So first I should clarify that I?m interested in the digital world and the objects we use to access it, but also in physical technologies from crowd-funded drones to anti-surveillance hoodies, from weird new materials to tiny iPad-cleaning robots.

That said, what I won?t be doing is joining the race to post images of and quote press releases for the latest gizmo. To me, what?s really interesting about technology isn?t technology?it?s what people choose to do with technology, for better and for worse. Perhaps it?s quaint to say so, but I?m a fan of human agency. And although I think Gardner?s concern should be taken seriously, I?m optimistic that I?ll have plenty to write about.

That brings us back to Google Glass: While I can see how it might impact ?what you?re meant to do with your body,? as Brin put it, it?s less clear to me how it improves what you can do with your mind. Evidently you?re supposed to use it to display information and record ?lifebits.??

OK, but personally I can?t wait until people start figuring out not what they?re supposed to do with this technology, but what they can do. Google Glass, you could say, will be a lot more interesting once clever people emasculate it.

The military intervened in clashes between thousands of protesters and police in the restive Egyptian canal city of Port Said on Sunday, March 3, 2013, the latest in a cycle of violence that killed several security members and civilians, and which continues to rock Egypt two years after the uprising that ousted longtime ruler Hosni Mubarak. (AP Photo, File)

PORT SAID, Egypt (AP) ? Parts of a government complex were set on fire as protesters throwing stones and firebombs clashed with police firing tear gas and birdshot Monday in a new day of clashes that have caught the military in the middle of fighting in the restive Egyptian city of Port Said.

The renewed clashes came hours after thousands of city residents rallied in a funeral procession for civilians killed during street battles with police a day earlier in which three policemen and three civilians were killed.

The two days of clashes have dragged in the military to a dramatic extent. Troops trying to break up fighting have been overwhelmed by police tear gas, one army colonel was wounded by live fire, and at some points troops have opened fire over the heads of police. The scenes have underlined a scenario that many in Egypt view with a mix of concern and relief ? that the military may move back into politics, prompted by mushrooming protests, a breakdown in law and order and mounting challenges to the Islamist president.

On Monday, the military deployed soldiers and cars to escort the funeral procession. "We want retribution," the marchers chanted. "It is now war between us and you, Interior Ministry." Protesters in the procession, carrying the coffins of the dead to the cemetery, waved the black-white-and-green flags of Port Said that have become a symbol of the city's revolt against the government.

Violence erupted when protesters on the way back from the funeral hurled rocks at the police headquarters, which lies in a government complex. Police responded with volleys of tear gas.

The military stood by as protesters and police exchanged projectiles, witnesses said. At one point, the military fired in the air to stop the violence. Flames were visible from the provincial government's headquarters and a nearby tax authority office, adjacent to the police building. Firefighters were unable to reach the blaze.

Amira el-Alfi, a 33-year-old resident of Port Said who watched as the building caught fire, said the scene was confusing.

"The government building is on fire. We don't know who is aiming at who. But young people end up dying," she said as she coughed from tear gas.

Medical officials said at least eight people were injured by birdshot.

The wrath among residents of Port Said is aimed at the police force, which many accuse of using excessive force that led to the killing of more than 40 civilians during protests in January. The city has seen the heaviest protests in a wave of unrest around the country in recent months. In at least two separate incidents in Cairo on Monday, protesters torched two police vehicles, setting them on fire and driving the policemen in the cars running in the middle of traffic on major thoroughfares.

Port Said, on the Mediterranean coast at the mouth of the Suez Canal, has been in turmoil since late January, when a Cairo court issued death sentences against 21 people, most residents of the city, for involvement in Egypt's deadliest soccer riot in February 2012. The verdicts sparked angry protests in the city, which turned into deadly clashes with police, leaving more than 40 dead, including two policemen.

Residents have been outraged by what they call excessive force by the police and by the central government's response ? Islamist President Mohammed Morsi called the protesters "thugs" and has generally backed the security forces. The police said most of the protester deaths came during an attempt to storm a prison.

Tensions have risen further ahead of a court hearing planned for Saturday that is expected to confirm the death sentences to issue new verdicts for police officers and other Port Said defendants also charged in connection with the soccer tragedy.

For nearly three weeks, the city has seen protests, strikes and work stoppages, including the blocking of a major port.

The fighting Sunday saw the most dramatic instance of the military being pulled into the middle of Egypt's escalating tensions.

Witnesses described a tense scene between the police and the military during the clashes. The fighting began when thousands of protesters marched on the police headquarters after word emerged that 39 defendants in the soccer violence case had been transferred to prisons outside the city. The move apparently aimed to ensure calm ahead of Saturday's hearing in the case.

The protesters Sunday lobbed rocks and firebombs at the police building. The police, heavily deployed around their building, moved out to try to push back the protesters.

Army officers tried but failed to negotiate an end to the fighting, then pulled back from between the two sides. Then the troops began getting hit. An army colonel, Sherif el-Arayishi, was shot in the right leg by live ammunition, military spokesman Ahmed Mohammed Ali said. Also, soldiers were overwhelmed by the tear gas that police were firing at the protesters. In one case, captured on video, a tear gas canister fell inside a military armored vehicle, and the choking soldiers stumbled out, helped by protesters who carried them to an ambulance.

Then the military moved back in, deploying their vehicles back in the crowds between the protesters and police. They fired in the air in the direction of the police, prompting cheers from the protesters, witnesses said. People chanted at one point: "The people and army are one hand."

"We had doubted the military, thought it was only there to protect installations. What they did yesterday restored our confidence," said one protester who had witnessed the scene, 25-year-old Mohammed Atef. "We felt they are feeling the injustices against us; that they decided to protect us too."

On Monday, both the military and the Interior Ministry, which is in charge of the police, sought to dispel any sign of friction between their forces. The Interior Ministry issued a statement saying "unknown elements" fired arbitrarily at the police and military with the aim of sowing sedition and causing escalation.

In a statement late Sunday, the military denied it fired at police. Ali, the military spokesman, said the armed forces were protecting installations and separating protesters and the police. On Monday, Ali said that the fact that people on both sides were injured indicates that unknown elements were behind the gunfire.
